Possible Side Effects: Interceptor rarely produces side effects. Vomiting, depression, diarrhea, drooling, staggering, weakness, and seizures are all infrequent but possible side effects. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet displays any unusual symptoms after receiving Interceptor.

Drug and Food Interactions: There are no known drug or food interactions associated with Interceptor but they have the potential to occur. Tell your veterinarian about any medications, heartworm preventatives, flea/tick preventatives, vitamins, or supplements your pet is taking before starting him/her on Interceptor.

Precautions: Your veterinarian will discuss the frequency of heartworm testing that is necessary for your pet. The safety of Interceptor in pregnant, nursing, or breeding cats has not been established. Tell your veterinarian about any drug reactions your pet has had in the past especially if pet has previously reacted to Interceptor, milbemycin, or any other heartworm medication. Some intestinal worms can be spread to humans. Discuss strategies you can use in order to keep your pet and you safe.

What is Interceptor for Dogs 51-100 lbs? This is a preventative medication that comes in tablet form. Give your pet one flavored tablet by mouth once a month in order to protect him/her from heartworm disease and some intestinal parasites. Interceptor kills heartworms before they mature into adults that may cause illness. This medication also works to control hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum) and to control and treat roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina) in dogs and cats plus whipworms (Trichuris vulpis) in dogs.

How is it given?

Always follow your veterinarian’s instructions regarding dosing and dosing frequency.
Give one tablet by mouth (orally) every 30 days or as directed by a veterinarian.
Try to give each tablet on the same date every month.
Give this medication monthly year-round or seasonally during mosquito season.
If Interceptor is given to your pet seasonally, give the first dose within 30 days of your pet's first exposure to mosquitoes and give the last dose within 30 days after his/her last exposure to mosquitoes.
The size of Interceptor your pet receives is generally based on his/her body weight.
Give your pet the tablet whole so they can chew it or crumble the tablet and mix it with some food if necessary.
Check to make that your pet ingests the entire dose of Interceptor.
If your pet spits the tablet out, give another dose as soon as possible.
