Since my cat was diagnosed with CRF (chronic renal failure in May of this year (2009) I have tried Hills K/D, Royal Canin Renal, Iams and Purina Renal diets & even though she seemed to like them all on 1st or 2nd feedings(except for the purina renal which she would not eat at all) she then refused them. THEN I tried this HI-TOR brand and she still prefers it over the others after 2 months and still eats it readily. It is VERY MOIST (I dont have to add water to make it mushy) and can be totally licked up - Great for my 15 year old cat that is tooth-challenged (has only a few teeth). Wish I would have found this earlier - would have saved me alot of $$ - costs less than the Royal C too! I like the moisture content - important for CRF. Over 6 months since diagnosis and she is doing great so far.

If you've been feeding this to your cat for awhile, please note that the formula has recently changed. My cat doesn't like it nearly as much as the old formula, but will still eat it with a little effort. All in all, seemingly one of the more palatable renal foods, even with the change.

Comments about Hi-Tor Neo Diet For Cats:

Have purchased this product in the past for the same two kitties ( now 18 and 20 ) with kidney issues. Periodically look to give them a little variety in their otherwise restricted diets. They both used to like this food, so I bought two cases. Sadly, both of them turn their nose up at it now...I am not sure if this particular batch lot isn't good, or they've changed their formula, or ???. They are eating other foods, so it isn't an appetite issue, as can be so common with animals with kidney issues. As a vet tech for over 30 years, I am all too aware of that part of kidney disease.

Comments about Hi-Tor Neo Diet For Cats:

My cats used to like Hi-Tor Felo, but then stopped eating it (they often do that after a while with all varieties of cat food). I figured my 18 year-old guy would benefit from the Neo food because he is very old and so are his kidneys. But my two cats didn't want anything to do with the Neo, and the feral cats I feed barely wanted to touch the stuff, I guess because the smell and texture are unpleasant. I also noticed the empty cans are extremely greasy inside, like melted lard. I hesitate to give bad ratings to cat foods since taste is subjective and not necessarily indicative of poor quality, but it's odd that all the cats I've fed it to don't like it.

Great value and kitty likes it

Comments about Hi-Tor Neo Diet For Cats:

My cat eats one can per day and is happy with this food. It is best priced brand of kidney diet and I've been ordering it for about a year and a half. Sometimes I add a spoonful of canned pumpkin, the fiber helps with his bowel movements as the renal failure affects how his body processes liquid.

Cats Wouldn't Touch It

Comments about Hi-Tor Neo Diet For Cats:

So, forget the website where this food is from between this and Pet 360, their sister site. But my fuzzy kitties wouldn't even taste this. So it's hard to say whether energy/mood would improve. Had high hopes as my kids all eat the very highest quality foods available, no matter the expense. Boo, sad that my 18 year old kitty Rudy, who had early onset kidney disease at 10 years of age, cannot benefit. I'm now stuck with a WHOLE LOTTA food! why not sell it in smaller packs as a trial for owners?

Comments about Hi-Tor Neo Diet For Cats:

My 10yo cat has not been officially diagnosed, but shows many of the signs of CKD, just not the blood tests, although she is anemic. So I'm being pro-active and this food is a great find. With similar qualities of RX food, but with out the cost, I'm happy to feed this to her. She gets bored with food quickly, so I'm switching this out with some other foods good for CKD in the hopes she has many more years ahead of her.
