Purina NF is the only food my finicky cat will eat and loves.
This is specifically suited for his medical condition (Chronic Renal Failure)
I have tried soft can Kidney diet foods (Science Diet K/D /turns brown right away upon opening, and Iams Renal/very dry) He hates these and will not eat them without his prescription appetite stimulant. However he will chow down Purina NF happily with no appetite stimulant.

My cat was diagnosed with kidney problems 5 years ago and from the beginning was happy with the "old" Purina NF diet. When they changed their formulation, he refused to eat it. Eventually I was able to get him to eat Hills KD (chicken), but not the new NF.

The old NF formula contained liver, beef, poultry by-products, trout, rice; the new contains poultry by-products, beef, rice, meat by-products, chicken.

My cat does not like "chunky" food. The old formulation, in addition to rice being the 5th ingredient, used brewers rice which breaks down during processing. The new formulation, in which rice is now the third ingredient, uses long-grain rice which stays intact.

The new formulation has also changed color and smell, and not for the better.

All in all, I am so disappointed that Purina would do this. Cats are picky eaters, and when they are older and not feeling their best, they are even worse about what they choose to eat. Purina should have known this and been more careful to reformulate, if they absolutely had to, closer to the original.

Comments about Purina Veterinary Diets NF KidNey Function Feline Formula Canned:

My cats Vet warned me that my cat might not like the food. Cats can be finicky eaters. Turns out, my cat loves it! Whew! Combining this food with a regimen of daily fluids and my cat has started to recover his health. Only downside is that because it is low in protein he can be a little more hungry than usual. Working on finding or making treats that work within the restrictions of a diet for kidney disease. In the meantime, I give him a little extra of this food and he seems to be doing fine with that. Definitely would recommend trying this food out if you have a cat with kidney disease.

Comments about Purina Veterinary Diets NF KidNey Function Feline Formula Canned:

This canned food is so digestible. Both of our cats love it - especially when it's chilled. It seems to taste more refreshing to them when it's been in the fridge. One of our cats is 15 and has age-related kidney disease at an early stage. Our other kitty is only four - he has juvenile kidney dysplasia - and has stage 3 kidney disease. This food is excellent for cats of all ages with kidney disease. It is making a huge difference in keeping our cats well-hydrated and providing them with good nutrition. Thank you, thank you, for such a perfect product!

My 20 year old cat likes this product very much. He developed kidney disease a few years ago but his numbers have stabilized since I changed his food. He receives no meds so the food and water fountain seem to be the key.
