Poor Edie suffers from Chronic Pancreatitis and not that long ago we were having flare ups left and right. I tried changing her to a low fat diet, giving her pepcid, etc. but she would still have flare ups. It was time to switch to a prescription diet and after researching the other brands, I thought that Royal Canin not only had the best reviews, but also the healthiest ingredients (I try to stay away from byproducts). Since switching to RC we have not had ANY episodes! She loves the taste and the fact that she now gets to eat lunch. :)

The only downfall is that because it is so low in fat, you have to feed your dog double the amount or more to make up for it. For instance Edie, a 20 lb. Welsh Terrier went from 1 cup a day to 2.5 cups on the Royal Canin. So, it's about $35 every 3 weeks but Pet Food Direct makes it so easy, we have it set to automatically send a new bag every 3 weeks and because we are in Southern California, it comes the next day!

It works well for us because Edie is small, but if you have a bigger dog just beware that you will run out even faster and this may not financially be the best option for you. That being said, I could not be happier with Royal Canin as my dog loves the taste and is healthier than ever!

Why the formula had changed?

Changing formulas is affecting the health of my dog and I don't appreciate it.

My lab needs to lose about 20 pounds. He's 9 1/2 and now has a low thyroid. I changed to Royal Canine low fat 3 weeks ago and he is losing weight AND enjoying his food. His bowel movements are more frequent but thankfully I have a daughter responsible for clean up!

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Gastrointestinal Low Fat LF Dry Dog Food:

Our boxer has had a host of ailments all his life, from hives to loose and bloody stools to stomach discomfort, vomiting and even a nasty bout of pancreatitis that nearly killed him. Through it all, we have tried everything we and our vets could think of to normalize his system, including Pepcid, pumpkin, pro-biotics...home-cooked food, non-allergenic food and just about every high-end specialty protein kibble on the market. Royal Canin Lowfat GI has been a revelation. We transitioned him to (SLOWLY) it about 9 months ago, and for the first time in 5 years, our pup feels good, looks good and has normal poop. We still add the antacids, pumpkin and pro-biotics to his food, but the kibble has made all the difference. It's not cheap, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than going to the vet every month! And it's worth every penny just to have a happy, healthy dog.

Recommeded by vet for dog that had pancreatitis, cannot digest fatty foods. This food has been good for him.
Also, just started other dog with sensitive stomach on this food and it has been very good for her.
