Having been around cats my entire life, & trying a variety of foods, from the big brand names you see constant commercials about on tv, to what many local stores & some large pet shops consider high quality, you know the familiar cheaper brands I am talking about, Meow Mix, Friskies, Whiskas, the cheapy store brands, & others like Iams, Purina One, etc., ones most stores consider high quality. Growing up with my parents feeding those brands to our cats, & up until recently, I fed my last cat I had stuff like Purina One, Iams, etc., I was big on Iams, as that was what the local pet store where I used to live near had always claimed to be such a great food. Nothing against them, but wow, was I getting fooled.
My little monster is almost 1yr old (5/20/13), I adopted him on July 7th, 2013. From day one I was adamant about having him on a grain free diet. When I adopted him from the shelter, they were feeding him the good old Purina Kitten chow. I immediately tried to switch him over to Wellness Core Kitten. After weeks of trying, he just didn't like it. After talking to my local pet store here where I now live, who is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to high quality foods, they had me try him on Taste of the Wild. He has loved it from day one.
Eating a strict diet of Taste of the Wild dry food, with some occasional Weruva wet food (I also highly recommend this wet food, it's one of the best), he is so incredibly healthy. I have been around cats all my life, & I have never, ever, seen a cat with such silky soft fur. It's amazing how healthy he looks, how soft his fur is, healthy teeth, & boy does he have energy. Way more than I do lol. He eats freely as far as his dry food, eating roughly 1 - 1 1/4 cup a day. Every couple days as a treat I'll give him about 1/2 of a 3oz can of Weruva grain free wet food. I highly, highly recommend both to any loving cat owner. I purchase the 15lb bag of his dry Taste of the Wild food, & it lasts him about 2.5 months. Just to give you an idea of how long you can expect a bag to last. The smaller 5lb bags, will last roughly 5 weeks.
If you want a happy, healthy, energetic, kitten with soft as silk fur, this food is for you & your kitty. I would definitely recommend this to absolutely anyone. I cannot recommend it enough. It's Puuuurrrrfect :)

I have several pet cats - who gobble this up; however recently I have noticed that they are having a higher rate of urinary problems. We also just had to have a cat have bladder stones removed surgically. My pets eat canned (other brands: wellness/honest kitchen/fancy feast (as treat)) and dry food; however I believe this food is the one causing the issue. The cat boxes have been smelling extremely urine concentrated lately (we clean regularly). So I decided to stop feeding this food. I think it has helped and my little guys now seem happier and have less concentrated urine.

There seem to be other owners who are suspecting this food is causing bladder stones (search other reviews). I have also recently found out that this brand is owned by Diamond Pet - so I am no longer going to be purchasing this food.

Comments about Taste of the Wild Rocky Mountain Feline Formula Roasted Venison & Smoked Salmon Dry Cat Food:

This is the best natural, grain-free food I've used for my cats. They're both indoor/outdoor cats and were both diagnosed with Feline Herpes when we adopted them from the shelter. This food is SO great for their immune systems. They're doing really, really well!

Absolutely the BEST solution for cats with food allergies. My cat's fur has now grown back, and he loves the taste of this food. No Cons because as long I can buy a bag- he will continue to THRIVE.

        A Mixed Bag, part II

        About Me Long-time Pet Owner

Comments about Taste of the Wild Rocky Mountain Feline Formula Roasted Venison & Smoked Salmon Dry Cat Food:

An update to my previous review, in which I was (or, more accurately, the kitties were) too quick to judge.:

"Canyon River" has long been my go-to dry food. It has all the goods to provide a nutricious meal.

Recently I ordered "Rocky Mountain" flavor. Neither of my cats would touch the stuff. The full bowl sat there, adjacent to other kibble(s), for two weeks. But then one night a brave and curious feline took a chance - and the kibble did not kill him. (Or her - they won't fess up.) The other cat joined ranks, and now they appreciate it as much as,or perhaps more than, Canyon River.
