An essential part of a Bones and Raw Food Diet, tripe contains the partially digested grains and grasses that a cow has eaten. As carnivores, dogs and cats cannot convert vegetation into nutrients within their own stomach. However, when they eat tripe, they receive these nutrients that have been already processed naturally by the cow's stomach system.
Also present within the stomach lining are natural gastric juices, amino acids and other digestive enzymes not found in other pet food. These gastric juices and enzymes aid pets in digestion to efficiently utilize food for maximum nutrition. Amino acids are necessary for muscular development and other gastric juices are excellent cleaners for teeth.
Natural food contains a healthy and proportional range of bio-chemicals by weight and volume. Tripe has an exceptional balance of calcium to phosphorus and the overall pH is slightly acidic, which is better for digestion. It contains Linoleic and Linolenic essential fatty acids in their recommended proportions, as well as Omega 3 and 6. We put Krill in our cat food to boost Taurine levels and add a flavor that cats love. Krill comes from the sea and is a general term that describes the many species of open-ocean crustaceans. Taurine is an essential amino acid that is vital for many things, including eyesight. Unlike dogs, cats cannot produce Taurine naturally and must receive it by eating Taurine enhanced diets. Wild carnivores also eat small amounts of vegetation obtained by consuming the stomach and intestinal contents of their prey that contain fermenting grass and other plant material.
MoreDogs and cats have short intestines containing powerful digestive juices capable of breaking down and extracting nutrients from tough fibers, raw meat and even bones. Their saliva and stomach juices kill many bacteria and parasites present in raw food, (especially in "ripe" raw food) that might otherwise cause digestive upsets. Even young puppies and kittens are able to eat raw minced tripe without suffering digestive upsets. Growth rates are steady with good muscle development without excessive weight gain or putting stress on fast-developing bones.
