Ursodiol works by improving the flow of bile into and out of the gall bladder and into the intestine. This prevents bile from building up. If bile builds up, it can be potentially toxic. This medication can also help decrease cholesterol in the bile by reducing production of it in the liver. Ursodiol can also reduce the amount of cholesterol absorbed from food and increases its breakdown which can be especially helpful in removing gallstones that are made if cholesterol. Ursodiol is an oral medication. Always follow your veterinarians specific instructions regarding the use of this medication. If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember but never give two doses at once. Give Ursodiol only to the pet it has been prescribed for. Some animals may experience diarrhea while taking this medication. Ursodiol may cause liver disease to worsen in some pets. Symptoms of this may include vomiting, depression, or jaundice (yellowing of the gums, skin, or eyes). Certain animals may also be truly allergic to this medication and can suffer an allergic reaction. Other side effects are possible.

Do not give Ursodiol to animals who are allergic to it or similar medications. Rabbits, guinea pigs, or other animals with similar digestive systems cannot take this medication as it could cause fatal liver disease.
Caution should be used in animals with complications of gallstones, such as pancreatitis, bile duct obstruction, or inflammation of the gallbladder or bile ducts (cholecystitis and cholangitis). These animals should only take Ursodiol if the benefits outweigh the risks.
The safety in pregnant and lactating females has not been studied in all species. Storage:
