I feed this to my Chins everyday - they eat it all, and prefer it to other pellets. I haven't been giving it to them for a long time, but they changed foods easily and are not having any problems with it!

The only thing that I would suggest - if you buy the 50 lb bag (like I did), get an air tight container to keep the food fresh :) Like a tote that has a snap tight/sealed lid!

It is probably a good healthy pellet but it was obvious my chinchilla, Pancho, didn't like it much at all. He would leave half of it in his bowl by the next day and just didn't eat it (and we give a pretty small amount). We eventually finished the bag by mixing it with another pellet and gradually got rid of it. Maybe he ate it a little more over time but he still didn't like it much.

Pancho prefers Zupreem and American Pet Diner pellets. Unfortunately, Zupreem isn't as easy to find anymore and seems to have disappeared from the major sellers and pet stores. American Pet Diner (APD) we get through our House Rabbit Society chapter who buys a lot of APD products so adding a little chinchilla food to their shipment isn't a big deal.

Note: he's a pretty young chilla, we've only had him for 1.5 years and he was still growing when we got him. We don't go through these bags very fast so we don't have experience with more types. I'm not sure what we'll try next if we can't get the APD or Zupreem.

Comments about Oxbow Essentials - Chinchilla (Chinchilla Deluxe):

Probably will take me a year to go through this whole sack, but it's cheaper in bulk I guess. The packaging could be tougher/hardier, the plastic is kind of thin and wears fairly easily (mine already has a mysterious slit).

Comments about Oxbow Essentials - Chinchilla (Chinchilla Deluxe):

We've had Misty since she was hours old, she's been raised on Oxbo at the breeders recommendation. She's happy & healthy & leaves her bowl empty every night. We would never switch to another food...she gets Timothy Hay from a local feed place, and the occasional treat along with her pellets.
