My lab is almost 13 years old. The last year he has started having tummy problems which caused diarrhea often. I tried the usual things, but nothing helped. My vet recommended this food. I wasn't wild about it especially after I read what it the ingredients. But I tried it. First off, my dog loves it. Then, within a few days his diarrhea stopped. I continued to feed him the EN for about a month. Then, I decided to try another food which is supposed to be very good for dogs with tummy issues. The difference is that this food has a list of ingredients that I liked better. Unfortunately, even easing my dog into eating this new food slowly didn't matter. He got diarrhea again. So I went back to the EN. My only worry had been that he could not eat the usual amount that was recommended. He could only eat about 1/2 the recommended amount or else he would get sick again. So I fed him 1/2 the amount and supplemented his diet with pumpkin, apple sauce and no fat yogurt to give him the calories because he had begun losing too much weight. Of course he loved the whole mix. I continued this for another month while slowly increasing the amount of EN I fed to him. Currently he is eating almost the proper amount for a dog his size. His tummy is doing extremely well. He has put on some of the weight he lost. Now his weight is at a healthy level. I had a very hard time finding this food too, thankfully Pet Food Direct carries it. By the way, I noticed a comment that it makes some dogs breath smell bad. I think the food smells but my dog's breath is normal. I am so thankful that I found out about this food. My guy was miserable and you could tell that he really hated the emergency walks they would occur at 2am or 3am and waiting for me to get dressed to go out was difficult. Thanks again!

My vet prescribed this for my Great Dane who survived the dreaded bloat and was having digestive problems afterwards. I don't think it tastes that great and it gives both my dogs stinky breath. But they eat it and it gets rid of his diarrhea. They do however love the canned version.

Two years and no problems!

By Summer

Comments about Purina Veterinary Diets EN GastroENteric Canine Formula Dry:

I care for a senior who has a Maltese with what I call a 'tender tummy.' She had an expensive vet hospital stay which resulted in the vet recommending the EN diet for her. She's nine years old and has been on EN for two years with no problems! Zapping her food in the micro for a few seconds to take the 'frig chill off helps, especially in cold weather. She had been given 'people food' for treats-- those eyes are so hard to resist!-- but now she's on dry EN as treats and she's happy and healthy! Great Product!

Great food... My dogs love it and it's gentle on the stomach so my elderly dog can eat without any problems. It is quite expensive food, which is really my only complaint about it.

My daschund is 12. I first find out about this food bc a veterinarian gave to him. Since I'm giving this food, he is not having diarrea problems, which he used to have. He likes it but my other daschund ( that is not with me anymore, she pass away at almost 15) didn't like that much so I had to mixed with other food. Good product

    Heavy Beagle---Boomer

    By Boomer

from Indian Springs, OH, United States

Comments about Purina Veterinary Diets EN GastroENteric Canine Formula Dry:

We started buying this 3 months ago because our beagle was overweight(44 pounds) and having gal bladder problems. After 6 weeks she was down to 38 pounds and after 3 months she is at 34 pounds. We are feeding her 1 can a day plus giving her EN dry food for treats during the day. When she reaches 30 pounds we will go to 1 1/2 can a day plus En dry food for treats. Boomer is can jump higher than ever, is more playful and perky and just all around feels better. An her gal bladder is a lot better. Great product if you follow the vets directions.
