My lab is almost 13 years old. The last year he has started having tummy problems which caused diarrhea often. I tried the usual things, but nothing helped. My vet recommended this food. I wasn't wild about it especially after I read what it the ingredients. But I tried it. First off, my dog loves it. Then, within a few days his diarrhea stopped. I continued to feed him the EN for about a month. Then, I decided to try another food which is supposed to be very good for dogs with tummy issues. The difference is that this food has a list of ingredients that I liked better. Unfortunately, even easing my dog into eating this new food slowly didn't matter. He got diarrhea again. So I went back to the EN. My only worry had been that he could not eat the usual amount that was recommended. He could only eat about 1/2 the recommended amount or else he would get sick again. So I fed him 1/2 the amount and supplemented his diet with pumpkin, apple sauce and no fat yogurt to give him the calories because he had begun losing too much weight. Of course he loved the whole mix. I continued this for another month while slowly increasing the amount of EN I fed to him. Currently he is eating almost the proper amount for a dog his size. His tummy is doing extremely well. He has put on some of the weight he lost. Now his weight is at a healthy level. I had a very hard time finding this food too, thankfully Pet Food Direct carries it. By the way, I noticed a comment that it makes some dogs breath smell bad. I think the food smells but my dog's breath is normal. I am so thankful that I found out about this food. My guy was miserable and you could tell that he really hated the emergency walks they would occur at 2am or 3am and waiting for me to get dressed to go out was difficult. Thanks again!

My vet prescribed this for my Great Dane who survived the dreaded bloat and was having digestive problems afterwards. I don't think it tastes that great and it gives both my dogs stinky breath. But they eat it and it gets rid of his diarrhea. They do however love the canned version.

I have a cairn terrier and she has a very sensitive stomach ,she's had issues of throwing up her food and has acid problems in the morning, the vet put her on this dog food and also added fortiflora .she is doing great ,been on this for 2 weeks. I read we're someone gave there dog Pepcid for there stomach issues,,not a good idea because it's bad for their kidney and liver.that's why I use the fortiflora ,this product is also good for dogs with gas issues.

Our dog had been throwing up all the time and our vet recommended we try this food. It helped tremendously. He hasn't had any stomach issues since starting the food and it was an easy adjustment. He also loves the food so much that he sits at his bowl wanting more!

Comments about Purina Veterinary Diets EN GastroENteric Canine Formula Dry:

My Vet finally recommended this dog food for my Girl, that has a litter of puppies. When the pups were about two weeks old, she started having severe diarrhea. After a few treatment and vet visits, I was told to try this dog food. Today is day three on it and it's working. NO more runny stool. Hopefully it takes care of whatever was causing her intestinal problems. Puppies are now six weeks old, so she's had it for four weeks. 2-3 of the puppies have diarrhea too, but I'm hoping theirs is caused from the over 100 degree heat the past 1-2 weeks. We'll see.

Our 10 year old rescue golden retriever has Cushing's, valley fever and other problems. He constantly had diarrhea. On the advice of our daughter, a veterinary who uses these products in her clinic, I decided to try them. The difference has been amazing. He loves the food, he wouldn't eat the more expensive dog food we were giving him. I mix the dry and canned. The diarrhea has stopped and he is running around like a 3 year old, Thank you.
