Comments about Triumph Chicken 'N Liver Formula For Cats:

I bought a case of this variety a few months ago, and while my cat likes it and I am going to finish the case off, I always kind of cringe at the thought of opening a new can.

This stuff STINKS. It stinks when I warm some up for a meal, it makes my cat's stool AND breath stink too. I know cats can have a reputation for stinky breath but I've never had this problem and there is a distinct difference in the way she smells after she eats this stuff. It's especially gross when she cleans herself and is damp with saliva.

It could be the fish broth, but I'm guessing the pork liver is the problem because the smell is very similar to that out-house kind of smell cooking liver can have.

I probably will not buy Triumph cat food again, unless they change the formula and replace the pork liver with something less offensive. It's a shame too because my cat really likes it and it's a good food for the price.

I don't recommend this food unless you don't mind the smell.

Comments about Triumph Chicken 'N Liver Formula For Cats:

We have four male cats, one of whom developed urinary crystals and a complete blockage, eventually requiring PU surgery due to recurrent blockages. After spending hours researching cat urinary health, I've realized how important WATER is for cats to maintain optimal health. Dry kibble just doesn't cut it, no matter how good it is.

We are now in the process of transitioning all of our cats to Triumph. It's made with excellent ingredients, has low magnesium and phosphorous, and our cats love it. It's also really reasonably priced, especially the 13 ounce cans. One pack of twelve 13-ounce cans is six days worth of food for our four cats. Even though wet food is more expensive than dry, it's well worth it in the end.

only one out of four cats will eat it

Comments about Triumph Chicken 'N Liver Formula For Cats:

i've been trying various pet foods that are low in phosphorus, but not prescription level low, to find one that my cats will eat to try to prevent my cats with stage 1-2 CRF from progressing to stage 3-4, and to keep my cats without CRF from getting it.

i tried this flavor of triumph because it met 3 of my 5 requirements: low phosphorus, .98% DMW, relatively high protein, 41% DMW, calories from fat was less than evo, 62%. what i didn't like was that carbs made up over 10% of its DMW (14%) and it is high in calories (117), but at this stage, i am more concerned with phosphorus and willing to be more flexible on carbs and calories (calories can be restricted by portion size after all).

but 3 out of 4 cats rejected it--refusine to eat it altogether.

the consistency is very dry and crumbly for wet food, which i don't like.

i wish i hadn't had to buy a case to try it, but it isn't sold near me. but at least i can use up what was purchased by giving it to the 1 cat who seems to like it.

for comparison purposes--my cats used to eat evo turkey/chicken kitten and cat wet for years (the one with the purple label). they loved it, but it made them all obese. it gets 64% of its calories from fat, has very high calories (109 for 3 oz), and has a relatively high phosphorus level (1.31). in fact the only good thing was its carb level, at just 4% DMW.

they also like fancy feast classic chicken or turkey pate. fancy feast is what i used to help them lose weight--and it worked beautifully (all are a healthy weight again, with basically no effort, and in less than 6 months). contrary to popular belief it does not contain by-products, has low calories, 93 for 3 oz, low fat, only 51% of total calories, low carbs, 4%, and is highly palatable-but it has high phosphorus levels (2.10).

they also like purina one chicken or turkey pate--the composition is basically the same as fancy feast but it has less phosphorus (but still too high)= 2.00.

i couldn't give any pros, because food that isn't edible to most cats, isn't a safe bet for most cat owners, who have to purchase a case of the food to see if their cat(s) likes it--regardless of nutrition claims by the manufacturer or the fact that it is affordable.

i've also tried felidae pure chicken, but none of my cats will eat it. and am now trying petguard beef and wheat germ. you can check my reviews of these if you are interested.

My cats all like this flavor. I have noticed that they have alot more energy than when they ate dry cat food. Their urinary health has improved as well. I haven't found any drawbacks to using Triumph since all my cats have been much healthier since eating it.
