I simply must find out why my pet seems so sluggish. So I go to the experts. Hills Prescription Diet k/d Canine Renal Health dog food is formulated by veterinarians and nutritionists to support your dogs kidney health. Kidneys are very important because they remove waste substances from the blood, and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. There are many causes for kidney, or renal, disease that result in a variety of uncomfortable and life threatening symptoms for your dog. The disease may develop either suddenly or gradually, and may a result from other diseases, changes in health, hereditary tendencies, and nutritional factors. Prescription Diet k/d Canine Renal Health therapeutic food for dogs is clinically proven to extend and improve quality of life in dogs. It contains reduced phosphorus to help maintain healthy kidney function, as well as reduced levels of protein to help alleviate kidney workload. Reduced sodium helps maintain normal blood pressure. Blood flow to the kidneys is boosted by increased levels of omega-3 fatty acids, while increased levels of B-complex vitamins compensate for vitamin losses in the urine.

My dog is in severe kidney failure. It was recommended to me to feed him Prescription diet K/D to lessen how hard his kidneys have to work. He has been eating it for 4 months now and he seems to be stable. He hasn't gained much weight back but he is generally happy. He doesn't care much for the taste and wants to eat his brother's food. I have been adding a tablespoon of canned regular dog food and that makes him happier and he eats it all up. I still don't understand why it is so expensive.. He's been a great dog for the last 12 years so I spend the money on him.

Both of our dogs are the same age and one of them had elevated kidney levels so the vet prescribed this dog food. My dogs both lost weight and I would hardly ever see them eat. The one with the kidney issue started trolling, constantly looking for food...ANYWHERE! Because it was so expensive and they seemed to hate it, I got "another brand" with chicken. We came home and mixed the k/d with the "other brand" to finish off their container. Big mistake! Our dogs carefully picked out the k/d and proceeded to spread the food all over the floor in order to get to the "other brand"!! Now we have k/d everywhere! I know dogs can't be that picky and it must taste horrible for them to go to that length to bypass it! When we first scooped up the "other brand", you would have thought these dogs had been starved to death! My recommendation, stay away unless it's absolutely necessary! Your dogs might lose weight, like mine did and start looking for food everywhere. Buyer beware!

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Renal Health Dry Food:

My 15 yr old Chocolate Lab was having problems holding his bowels. After many test we found out his kidneys are not very good. Duke has been on both dry and wet K/D for over a year and has a much better quality of life and very few accidents in the house. At last check up his kidneys are not any better but they are not any worse. This food has made a huge difference.

He never skips a meal

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Renal Health Dry Food:

we adopted an 8 yr old dog Australian Cattle Dog from the rescue shelter. He came home with a lot of prostrate, urinary and kidney issues. Our vet got him stable and one of the keys was Hill's Kidney food. Getting him to eat was very important to increasing his health level. He has not skipped a meal since being on the k/d. We mix it with a little water and 1/4 can of wet food and it vanishes. He seems to be quite healthy and energetic. His play mate is a 1 yr old pitbull and he holds his own when they play.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Renal Health Dry Food:

My vet recommended this food and I bought a large bag without having any samples. My dog would not eat this, no matter how I tried to hide it. What a waste of money.
