My little Maltese has liver shunt disease. She will be 3 years old on 1/1/17. We spoke with a surgeon when she was 6 months old and in lieu of surgery we opted for the special diet. She is active, playful, healthy, and likes the food. We use the wet food mixed with a little chicken broth as recommended by the surgeon. As a treat we give her the dry Hills L/D (at least she thinks it's a treat) and it is good for when we travel. Only drawback with the canned food is the size of the can. It takes 3 days for her to finish a can and that's with feeding her twice per day. Wish it came in a smaller size or perhaps a pouch.
