Bingo hates to have his teeth brushed. Luckily, I have found a nutritious solution for the hard to reach places. Dental care for your pet may be more important than you think. Recent studies have demonstrated there is an association between oral health issues and systemic general health issues affecting the kidney, heart and metabolic systems.
Prescription Diet t/d keeps teeth clean and helps control the oral bacteria found in plaque. Hill's Prescription Diet t/d Dental Care Dry Dog Food has a special fiber matrix that scrubs the exposed tooth surface like an edible toothbrush, reducing bacteria-laden plaque. If left unchecked, this buildup can lead to gingivitis, a dental condition that can weaken the gums and tissues that support the teeth.
Awarded the Veterinary Oral Health Council Seal of Acceptance for helping reduce both plaque and tartar accumulation, Hill's Prescription Diet t/d Dental Care Dry Dog Food consists of a unique kibble that scrubs away laden plaque in the mouth to promote systemic health. It is clinically proven to reduce plaque, stain and tartar buildup, and reduces bad breath. Added antioxidants control cell oxidation and promote a healthy immune system.

My dog is 8 years old, her teeth aren't in the best of shape. She loves her dry food, but I know that isn't enough and the kibble are so small. So I invested in Hills Science Diet T/D from my vet. I use them as treats instead of milk bones etc. My dogs think they are literally the best treats ever! With their old treats they would sniff it and look at me as if it say "do I ave to eat it?". With the T/D food, they never have to take a second sniff. I'm excited they really LOVE this as their treat (ssssh don't tell them it's really only dog food), and that it is helping their teeth in the long run too! The vet has mentioned that her teeth still look great at the age of 8, and the fact that she hasn't had a professional dental cleaning yet. Definitely recommend these for your animal, can use as the sole diet or just as treats like I do! They really work!

I have given Hill's Prescription Diet t/d three stars because of its comparably low nutritional value.
For Dental care alone, I would give it 5 stars.

We adopted a 12 year old Lhasa-poo. Her teeth had very thick deposits of plaque on them, and the only white showing was a little bit at the very tips. We fed her half Hill's t/d regular kibble and half a food with better nutrition. In three months of this diet, a great amount of the plaque had been removed in small chunks. By six months, the only plaque left was a little on the outside of her canines where the kibble doesn't rub. I was so impressed. Our Vet was impressed, too, and said he had never seen a case where the heavy plaque was removed by diet alone.

Later we adopted a year and a half old Shih-poo and within 3 weeks noticed a dark film forming on his teeth. We switched dog foods, but also began giving him one large t/d kibble as a treat after every meal. He is still young at 3.5 years, but his teeth are sparkling white all the way to the gums.

It's my opinion that it's good to use the regular size t/d kibble, which is about 1" across, not "small bites" - at least for our dogs who have weighed about 20lbs. The extra diameter may help clean more of the teeth surfaces.

I read other reviews that say it hasn't helped much - I wonder if individual dogs teeth/saliva makeup react differently?
    We've been really impressed!

They like the taste but too big

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet t/d Canine Dental Health Dry Food:

I bought a bag last month and though my 6 pound and 12 pound dogs like it, the small bites are too big and I have to cut them in half with a knife or break them with a hammer. The hammer crushes them too much. Either way, its very time consuming. They are much bigger than other brands of small bite kibble. Approximately the size of a nickel or a little bigger. Its says some of the ingredients comes from over seas. I would like to know what those ingredients are. I wish they were listed.

    best dental diet out there

    By Kristin V

    from Rhode Island, United States

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet t/d Canine Dental Health Dry Food:

I've been using this diet to keep both my dogs' teeth clean and I think the product is great. As a veterinarian, I see multiple dental products out there and I do think this is the best dental diet. My pets' teeth look great; I've seen some patients come in on other dental diets and the diets do not appear to be effective. The only down side to the diet is that it is a very dry diet, and I felt that in one my dogs it lead to some constipation. I resolved that issue by cutting it 50/50 with their regular OTC diet, and they do great. Some of my other clients use this as their pets' treat, making sure that they give several treats throughout the day to help keep the teeth clean. Others serve it as the primary diet.

    Works Well, Smells Bad, Ta.stes?

    By Shirley Burley

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet t/d Canine Dental Health Dry Food:

I've been using the t/d canine formula for several years to help keep my older (he's 11 now) dog's teeth cleaner. The product has been doing a fine job! There are only two problems. 1) I've been feeding dry dog food for over 50 years. This is the worst smelling dry food I've ever used! and 2) My dog doesn't like the taste of it, and is getting to where he won't eat it!
