My dog, Oscar, has been on u/d for about the last year and a half. I have never had a problem until the last case I bought. DO NOT buy the cans that have an expiration date of 07/2016. The food in the can is nasty! It's gummy, and looks totally awful. I took it back to the store I bought if from and was able to trade it out for a different case. I had the store manager open a can from the new case and one from a different case with an exp date of 7/2016. The can in the case dated 7/2016 looked nasty. I would not feed that mess to my worst enemy. The next time I needed to buy more food for my baby, you are not going to believe it, but that nasty stuff was still on the shelf. I had to buy the dry food. He won't eat it because the pieces are too large and too hard.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet Hills Prescription Diet u/d Canine Urinary Care Chicken Flavor Canned Food:

I contacted Hills Prescription Diet since the last two cases of UD canned food purchased through Pet Food Direct has changed in consistency. It is now very gummy and sticks to my Bichon's mouth and teeth. It no longer has the firm loaf consistency. They told me that this is because it is a fresh batch - expiration 2016- and it was prepared during the hot months and did not reach the 'loaf' consistency. Perhaps you should look into this since it is prescription food. No other side effects so far except seemingly bad for my 11 year old dog's teeth ! My dog is on this diet because he had surgery for non struvite bladder stones.

The changed texture is so different, it went from being creamy to dry and flaky plus there is some kind of fluid in the can. My dog used to eat it quickly now she eats some then go back to eat more, seems to not care for the new texture.

Our dog was diagnosed with a fatty liver and has had bladder stones, so the vet asked us to start feeding him this dog food. I was certain he would not like it, but to our surprise, he loved it from the first bite. I also cut slices up and bake them, which make great treats.
