Bailey (my Husky, German Shepard mix) has been eating the bag of Eukanuba® Large Breed Senior Chicken that I got for FREE from Eukanuba for several weeks now. Props to Eukanuba for sending a FULL SIZE Bag instead of a small sample so we could really test it out over a long period. Bailey is a very picky eater and the good news is that she doesn't hate Eukanuba® Large Breed Senior Chicken, but the bad news is that she doesn't love it either. I was really hoping she would gobble it up like some other folks had mentioned their picky eaters did. Instead she kind of picks around it, spits out some pieces like she's looking for something better and eventually eats about half of what I give her... but that's normal for the other brands she "likes." So unfortunately it was not a silver bullet to her picky eating ways, but she didn't turn her nose up, so that says something. I already had her on a high quality dog food where meat is the first ingredient, so I didn't notice any real difference in coat shine, energy, or over all well-being. But it didn't decline either. So bottom line, I'm on the fence about Eukanuba® Large Breed Senior Chicken. It's definitely worth a try especially if you don't have a picky eater, but is probably worth a try even if you do since a lot of reviews say their picky eaters like it a lot. It seems to be a good quality dog food with good ingredients, but based on Bailey's reaction, I doubt I will change her over to this food full time.

    Finished Bag

    By Kay2119

Comments about Eukanuba Senior Large Breed Formula Dry Dog Food:

My dogs have since my first review finished the bag of Eukanuba. Upon finishing that bag and starting them back on their usual brand, I noticed some interesting differences. My dogs were still excited when it was food time but the excitement wore off quicker than with the Eukanuba. They have also since had more frequent (3-5) as well as softer almost runny stools. With the Eukanuba they were normal solid stools with only about 2-3 a day. These are not major differences however, I feel they are intestinal differences that might mean the Eukanuba works better with their system. I am glad I was able to try this brand that I would not a previously tried and would reccommed it to others.

    An easy switch

Comments about Eukanuba Senior Large Breed Formula Dry Dog Food:

With older dogs especially, you have to be careful with switching their food, even if you follow all the rules. However, with Eukanuba Large Breed Senior Chicken my dog Skylar loved it without any of the tummy trouble and all of the benefits. We even had to lock our cats out of the room while she was eating because they wanted it too. They have never preferred her food over theirs until now. They sit in front of the dog food bin and beg like it's treats, but then again now so does she. Skylar used to belong to my parents and they fed her mostly table scraps so finding something she wouldn't turn her nose up at, after steak, is difficult. We are working at getting her back to a healthy weight so thanks Eukanuba for making my finicky dog a food she really likes that's also a senior food with her health in mind.

    Good To The Last Kibble

Comments about Eukanuba Senior Large Breed Formula Dry Dog Food:

Bravo finished his last bowl of free Eukanuba Senior Large Breed formula today and he looked at the empty bag as if to say " that's it, it's all gone?" He has always eaten Eukanuba foods due to his very delicate digestive system. As a puppy we tried an less expensive brand only to have him get sick for days. I love that Eukanuba has specific brands for breed type in addition to age. Bravo eats about 6 cups of food daily so to get to try the senior formula for free was really great. He's almost 9 years old but still acts like a pup, thanks Eukanuba!! Think it's time we switch to the senior brand now knowing he likes it and no messy reactions.#GotItFree

We love how nutritious this is for our big older dog, and he loves how it and makes little piggy sounds while eating it! We throw a spoonful of yogurt in it, or a handful of frozen veggies for added vitamins and good stuff. It's great!!

Eukanuba Senior wins the chicken dinner contest!

Comments about Eukanuba Senior Large Breed Formula Dry Dog Food:

Have you ever served your dog a cheap dog food only to have him take one whiff of his food dish and then look up at you quizzically? Well, our 12 year old Bagel Hound (Bassett/Beagle mix) did not give us a second glance as we mixed Senior Maintenance Dry Dog Food from Eukanuba into his normal fare to make the transition. He dove right in, barely stopping to take a breath before devouring the food. He’s been eating it exclusively for about 7 nine days now and is quick to remind us of feeding time, so he definitely enjoys the taste.

Upon looking at the list of ingredients, I was pleased to see chicken leading the ingredient list. It states that the meat is a natural source of Glucosamine, which should help with our dog’s joint issues as he ages. However, grains are also part of the recipe and especially seeing corn, which is a lower-quality grain, as the second ingredient was disheartening. A varied source of vitamins and minerals are part of the mix though and that’s something a senior dog really appreciates. So far, we haven’t noticed any outward changes, like a shinier coat, but that might come in time. I’m also going to monitor his breath, for improvement. The 3D DentaDefense™
should help with tartar buildup and fresher breath, so I’m hopeful.

You can get better quality food for your dog, but you’ll end up spending more, so this is a descent value for supermarket dog food.
