I have bred Great Danes for 28 years and learned over the years that high protein level in puppy foods are the leading cause of hip issues. Large breed puppies shouldn't have anything more than 24% protein and I wished puppy food companies started providing the proper protein levels. I have witnessed too many Great Dane puppies being euthanized because of severe Hip issues. The high protein level causes large breed puppies to grow too rapidly which causes hip issues. I think if this product was a lower protein level, it would be perfect.

ProPlan Puppy

By Barron Majestic Duke

Comments about Pro Plan Focus Puppy Large Breed Formula Dry Dog Food:

My dog is a standard poodle as well as a gulper. We use a bowl (circular) so he cannot gulp this all down at one time. He has enormous energy; and he is 14 months old. I chose to stay with the puppy food and feed him 1 time per day. He just loves it. His digestive system cannot tolerate "grain free". Our vet gives him a probiotic to help with this. The two older dogs eat the Pro Plan adult = weight management. Unfortunately he additionally feeds the little ones from the table (bad, bad, bad). The kitties eat Purine One sensitive systems. They do very well on this dry food.

We've been using Pro Plan for our dogs for 25+ years ever since a professional trainer introduced us to this food. Our new Lab puppy eats it enthusiastically and is doing well on the Large Breed Chicken and Rice formula.

Great food for both of my dogs

By Thackman

Comments about Pro Plan Focus Puppy Large Breed Formula Dry Dog Food:

I have 2 dogs, one is a 2.5 year old sweet little female pitbull named Bobbie Jo and the second is a 4 month old male lab mix named Cap. I've have both since they were young puppies and decided to feed them both Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy on advice from my vet. Both dogs have loved the food and have always maintained a healthy weight, have beautiful healthy coats and are always full of energy (sometimes almost too much so lol) which our vet attributes to their diets. I wouldn't say it's the cheapest food you can buy but if you're like me and you're primary concern is the health and well-being of your 4-legged family members, I'd strongly recommend starting them on a Pro Plan Puppy diet and transitioning to the Pro Plan Adult food as they get older.
