My senior pet w/thyroid and kidney issues is very picky and his med sometimes knocks out his appetite. I found that by using dehydrated raw like this brand is an excellent way to keep him bit more interested. Pro: Convenient size, can change consistency to soupy for delicate teeth. This flavor's bricks, however, are tough to break. The other flavor (hope it's carried here eventually) of chicken and salmon is much easier to crush. Salmon component comes from salmon oil, not raw fish (which is detrimental to cat's health and destroys vitamin B). I never leave in the fridge for more than a day but judging by other brands it is ok to do for up to three days (consistently across all). I use home-made defatted nutritional bone marrow broth to reconstitute for extra vitamins/minerals and always use warm liquid - it's faster and helps my cat smell it. Along with Avanti renal powder and enzyme powder from Only Natural Pet I feel his is getting the most nutrition a senior cat needs. Recommendation is 4 bricks/day for a 10lb cat but mine gets 6 since he's older and his nutritional needs are closer to a kitten's. I use it as a part of a rotation so he does not get bored and well worth the money. Not all cats like the same consistency and I would recommend testing out different amounts of liquid. If you are looking for a raw dehydrated that you may feed through a syringe if needed, this is great - particularly the chicken flavor. I do like that there are no bone shard chunks as I've found in another brand (from New Zeland with green muscles) which he liked but the bone pieces were just too big and not a good thing for renal cats. I hope this helps. Raw protein is excellent for cats with renal problems. All studies underwritten by Hills and others in business for peddling vet-prescribed low protein diets are based on cooked protein. High raw protein has been shown to be low strain on the kidneys, low in phosphorus. He refused to eat the overpriced K/D. Now, his readings are excellent and holding steady, he eats well and I don't have to make my own raw all the time. When caring for an older pet every little bit counts and feeding best possible diet helps manage vet bills and add to his life quality. I'm glad that we found that balance.

The food comes in bricks about 2"x1" which need to be crushed and soaked in water. I tried just soaking the bricks overnight but they didn't soften. Needed to crush them and then mix them with water. Have six cats--all of them ate it but then three of them puked it back up. It smells good. Have crushed the bricks up into lumpy powder and add a spoonful or two to their canned food with some additional water. Will use this stuff up because it was sooo expensive but will not get it again. Will just stick to Newman's Own Organic.

Comments about Primal Pet Foods Primal Freeze Dried Feline Chicken & Salmon Formula:

This is one of several "test" treats I bought for my cat and dog, and The Venison Freeze Dried Nuggets beat them all! I break one cube up and give the little chunks as treats where I wish I could give it as dinner. It's pricey, though, so I use it as a treat.

    • This is for my dog

Comments about Primal Pet Foods Primal Freeze Dried Feline Chicken & Salmon Formula:

I actually ordered this by mistake, so I re-ordered Lamb for my dog. She loves this food and can't wait to food time (I feed twice a day) It is helping for her UTI since she doesn't drink water often, and it gives enough moist and hydrate her body through out the day. She also have issue with Thiamine which this dog food doesn't have it, so I feel better knowing that it is SAFE for her to eat. She is doing very well with this food. Yes, it is bit pricy, but I feel good that she is eating good dog food and good for her health.

Comments about Primal Pet Foods Primal Freeze Dried Feline Chicken & Salmon Formula:

Clearly, research shows that raw food is the best nutrition for all cats. And Primal seems to be the best of the raw brands. Freeze-dried is convenient but more costly than frozen, which has to be defrosted and warmed before feeding, so it's less flexible, but I think the cats prefer frozen. I use both. The negative is that raw cannot be left at room temperature for more than two hours, and I happen to have an older cat who doesn't eat much at one sitting. After refrigeration, he's not interested in the leftovers. So it can be a challenge. But it's worth it when you know it's the best nutrition. Of the proteins that are more reasonably priced, turkey and pork are preferable to those that combine the meat with salmon (too long to explain here).

Comments about Primal Pet Foods Primal Freeze Dried Feline Chicken & Salmon Formula:

I usually feed raw frozen and my cats both enjoy and do very well with that. I wanted to try some of the freeze dried and/or dehydrated raw products available as well. They are all expensive and if they just won't eat it, then its totally not worth it. They won't touch this stuff
