This is a great diet and I have used it with tremendous success on my Corgis who have had weight concerns as they have gotten older. My problem, of late, is it's unavilability. It left the market, along with several other varieties approximately 4-6 months ago and I haven't yet seen it's return to my veterinary hospital. I have tried other reducing formulas and found they offered increased fiber and therefore produced a great deal of increased stool. However, the formula of other brands lacked the weight reduction abilities. Iams has the right recipe, I just wish I could find it.

I would recommend trying natural brands before using prescription diets. After using over-the-counter light diets for a couple of years with no results, my vet prescribed this food for my overweight cat. Both of my cats were fed this food almost exclusively for 2 years. First of all, I would say the recommended serving size is probably too much considering that my cat only lost about three-quarters of a pound each year. After two years my still plump, but otherwise healthy 7-year-old cat suffered from ureter blockages/kidney stones and was diagnosed with CRF (chronic renal failure). Even though he was a bit young, they said a combination of genetics, very hard water, and diet are thought to lead to kidney stones and CRF. He was put on fluid therapy and dry k/d food, and I began using a Brita pitcher to filter their water. Eight months later my other cat, who had experienced some stomach upset in the few years prior, began vomiting daily. An ultrasound revealed inflammation of the intestines that was so severe that it looked like lymphoma, but it turned out to be severe inflammatory bowel disease. I began supplementing their k/d dry diet with all-natural canned food, like Halo and Wellness. Since my cats have been doing so well on the natural wet food for the past year (even my CRF cat's kidney values are better than ever), I'm also switching to the Wellness dry food, which has much much better ingredients and low enough phosphorus levels for my CRF cat. No more prescription diets for my kitties.

I have three dogs that are very "picky" and this one leaves the bowls clean, besides the fact that it is grain free and good for them.
