How is this medication given? Use this medication according to your veterinarians prescribed instructions. The amount of Methio-Form your pet receives will depend on his/her diet and the amount of acidification necessary to control his/her urinary problems. It is usually recommended to give this medication with food to minimize the risk of stomach upset. Call your veterinarian if you are unsure of how to administer Methio-Form properly.
How does this medication work?Dl-methionine is the active ingredient in Methio-Form. It is an amino acid that will acidify the urine by decreasing the urines pH. This produces an acidic environment in the urine. This will discourage the growth of certain bladder stones (struvite).
What results can I expect? Your pets urinary symptoms should lessen and the urinary stones (struvite) that are responsible for your pets symptoms should lessen or dissolve. If your pet suffers from chronic urinary tract infections, your veterinarian may also prescribe this medication.
What form(s) does Methio-Form come in? These are flavored tablets that are scored and chewable.

Dose and Administration:Give this medication by mouth preferably with food. Follow your veterinarians precise directions. Give this medication when you remember if you happen to forget a dose but never double dose. Do not share this medication with other pets in the household. Always contact your veterinarian with any questions.
Uses:Methio-Form is used to decrease the pH of the urine in order to produce an acidic environment which can prevent certain urinary stones (struvite) from growing and can help to treat certain urinary tract infections.
Possible Side Effects: Reported side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. Other side effects may occur. Some pets can have an allergy to this medication. If your pet appears ill while taking this medication, contact your veterinarian.
Drug and Food Interactions: Interactions are possible if this medication is given with aminoglycoside antibiotics (ex.gentamicin) or with quinidine. Other interactions may occur. Always tell your veterinarian about all medications and supplements your pet is taking before giving Methio-Form.
Precautions:Methio-Form should not be given to animals with liver/pancreatic or kidney (renal) disease. Animals with metabolic acidosis or with a known allergy to any of the ingredients in Methio-Form should not take this medication. Use is also contraindicated in animals with a history of urate urinary stones. Do not give Methio-Form to kittens.
If your pet is on a urinary acidifying diet, he/she may not be able to take Methio-Form or the dose may need to be lowered.
Certain examinations and/or laboratory tests may need to be performed periodically as directed by your veterinarian.
Storage:Methio-Form should be kept at room temperature away from light and in a safe place away from pets and children.
