Vetmedin is a wonderful medication. We rescued a 4-year-old Sheltie that had severe heartworms. After 2 months of treatment and being put on Vetmedin and other meds for life, she is a happy, healthy girl.

Vetmedin is pricey but very effective, and PetFoodDirect has it for about half the price of retail! After our dog takes her other meds, the dose of Vetmedin is given as her 'treat' and she knows when it's coming. So glad to have this wonderul medication to keep our "four-legged child" in good health!

Does anyone also have enalapril and furosemide prescribed with this med vetmedin. I have seen my dog have several of the side effects mentioned in the literature of vetmedin. The medicine was prescribed to her after a slight stroke. She suffers from an enlarged heart with no medicine prescribed prior to the stroke. Does anyone have any opinions regarding the combination of these.

            Comments about Vetmedin Chewable Tablets:

Two years ago my much adored Bassett Hound was diagnosed with a severe heart problem which left me devastated. With the help of Vetmedin, Enalapril & Furosemide, he is still a happy boy. He does cough a bit, but he will go on short walks and he is happy. Vetmedin is expensive, but it is worth every penny!!

            Comments about Vetmedin Chewable Tablets:

Perhaps a silly question BUT, we had a foster dog who jumped up on the counter and ate the entire bottle of this med (for the other dog). We called poison control and were told we should try to induce vomiting but that the medication should do no harm. The dog did vomit and is fine. My question, however is this; if the medication is THAT innocuous (and expensive), does my dog REALLY need it at all? It's also a pain in the neck to cut the tablets in half as directed. Thanks

              Comments about Vetmedin Chewable Tablets:

About 6 years ago my vet referred one of my dogs to a "doggy orthodontist". I took two of my smaller dogs along with the larger dog.
Before performing any services, of course they received a complete physical examination. The two smaller dogs were found to have
heart problems and the Vetmedin was prescribed. One of the dogs is now 15 years old and the other is 14. They are still going as
strong as dogs that age can go! I have been very happy with the results of this med. It is beef flavored - most of the time they will just
eat the pills, sometimes I dip it in peanut butter. Overall, very easy to administer.
